The lastest adventures in nursing

I have been studying about drug and alcohol addictions for my latest class. One interesing tidbit of info I found was that caffeine (a stimulant) is metabolized by the liver and metabolism is increased in those who smoke tobacco- but get this: dependence and tolerance sometimes develop with it and when you ingest large doses of caffeine you can develop delirium, and rare cases of suicide have been noted with high caffeine consumption... (from my Fortinash Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing text).!! So, all you caffeine consumers out there (coffee, tea, chocolate, sodas, ect) beware.

I am currently working on a paper on homelessness in the elderly population- I am learning about the cycle of poverty- maybe I am being led into a whole different area of nursing than in the hospital..... but I am really enjoying my home care nursing practicum right now- the nurses are great, good atmosphere, and so far all the clients have been wonderful:)

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall season. Hope to hear from you all soon! Comments please people:)

  1. Well I am a self confessed coffee addict, but I have been consciously cutting myself back! I am looking forward to learning all this info next semester...I am done with 2nd year! Bring on 3rd.

  2. I walk around with a coffee IV drip. Seriously, seriously people....I can't do without it. The suicidal tendencies would come WITHOUT coffee.
But how cool that you've finally found an area that you love! Right on. There is so much more to nursing than just the hospital. Keep us posted!
